Entry #35

Bastard Moon
by Erik Ivan James
(modified from a previous post at Inside The Gazebo)

"Full moon: shining down on me like a piss-yellow eye.
The yellow glow of a wart smothered whore.

I see in your shadows the drippings of a slut.
You push against my rationale.
You ebb away my sanity.

Full moon: you bear upon me like an evil bitch.
I know your manipulations to my fragile mind, molding it now to smut.

The ravage and plunder, like that of a brutal prick.
I've let your influence rip out my heart and crush it back to dirt.
You've stomped out the love from me.
You've butchered my compassion.

Full moon, you ugly bastard!"

Wayne looked up from the rumpled paper and the broken, dripping pen. His gaze forced its way toward the beckoning moon. His reflection in the window made him tremble. The mass of hair now again on his face, his arms and hands. From his throat began his call to his master.

Wow - so strong! I love the POV! I've never thought of a werewolf writing poetry about his condition. I love this.

"the yellow glow of a wart smothered whore"

ha, best line ever.

This truly is a great piece.

Don't read much about weres, but this sounds to me like a strong and different take on the dark need POV.

Original perspective. His anger comes alive through vivid descriptions. Great job.

I kept thinking..."wow, what in the world has happened to this guy to make him so bitter and angry?"
You succeeded in following one of the rules of short story writing...just when the reader is bursting with a question - you answer it.

Awesome, Erik. It's good to know even werewolves find catharsis in writing.

I have to say it again, I love werewolf stories. Yours had an interesting twist to it.

Powerful writing. Kept me hooked all the way.

I have to admit, I was starting to think the poem was too much; an unwarrantedly harsh view of the moon. Then you explained why the view was too harsh, and it all fell into place. Nice, and unexpected.

Wow. I really didn't expect that ending. An intriguing moment--the creature hating its creator/tormentor.
