Happy St. Patrick's Day!

In honor of St. Patrick's Day, I thought I'd dust off my favorite poem from the Clarity of Night. The Celtic theme is strong in this one. It's my vision of Ireland or the wind-blown shores of Scotland.

I originally posted it on November 30, 2005. I still have contact with several of the folks who commented back then. I suppose that's the blogger's gift. A heartfelt thanks to those who have stayed with me!

The Piper's Gift
Flame in the wind
Entwined by night,
The hills beyond shadowy panes,
A flickering gaze
The failing light
Beholds a gathering rain.

Yet, in the dark,
Enchantments green
A forest embraces the trees.
And faintly descends
The salty seed
of misty, thundering seas.

Listen. Be still.
A distant voice
With curious harmonies weaves
Like memories weep
From broken sleep
The piper laughs while he grieves.

Jason and Aine, I'd also like to wish you both a very Happy Paddy's Day too.

Thank you for sharing your beautiful poem with us newbies. I could feel Atlantic gales howling as I read.
Beautifully evocative.

Sláinte mór maith, is fad saol!
(Good health, long life)

May your blessings outnumber
The shamrocks that grow,
And may trouble avoid you
Wherever you go.

And, for our dear Clarity of Night friends, one of the best Irish sayings I've heard:

As you slide down the banister of life,
May the splinters never point in the wrong direction!

Happy St. Patrick's Day, everyone!

Nice to see that poem again.
"The Great Gaels of Ireland...For all their wars are merry and all their songs are sad."

I had to go back and see if I was there. No luck of the Irish for me. Still, it's been a long time. Beautiful poem. I read it three times. Imagine a poem that rhymes anymore.

What a beautiful tribute to St. Paddy's Day. Thanks for sharing this again Jason; I wasn't a reader when you posted this the first time.

May the luck of the Irish be with you always!!!

Bernita, yes, you were (and are) one of the special ones.

Scott, I like the rhyme too. I should do more of those. They're hard to write though. **Your first visit here was not long after the time when the poem was first posted. I remember meeting you that spring.

Geraldine, thank you for the warm wishes. :)

Billy, thanks, my friend. I hope you enjoyed the day.

Miladysa, welcome! After a brief visit to your blog, I've learned that I will be spending more time there. Great work.
