when I was small, I always used to think that mushrooms were tiny umbrellas left by mistake, by the gnomes and fairies. They appear overnight, just like that! :)
"Walk the Mushroom Rains" would be a great title for a book of poetry or prose.
We had some tiny bright yellow mushrooms that sprung to life here a day or so ago. Quickly arrived and just as quickly gone. I didn't even have time to discover what they are.
Oh, gosh! I love what Aine said, too. It is observant and poetic - and sweet.
Mushrooms are so magical! (no, I don't mean in the psychedelic way) I love to see them in the woods under pine trees, in the moss, or peaking up through fall leaves. It reminds me so much of fairy folk.
"mycelium yawns to bloom" - love that line so much. Yes, those delicate filaments are so very expressive.
This time of year the mushrooms are AMAZING here in the South. I mean, not just cute little mushrooms, but huge toadstools maybe a foot in diameter! We didn't have those in California, so it's been a delight for me. I've always been a mushroom ID nut. I could spend all day out in the woods looking for weird mushrooms and trying to figure out what they are.
mushrooms are truly magical and the symbol of the 13th chakra...great picture and "mycelium yawns to bloom" is a wonderful use of words...my "word verification" is "calms", quite appropriate for mushrooms...LOL!
Margaret, thanks! The mycelia run thick in these lands.
Four Dinners, it's the true, enduring part of the plant. What we know as mushrooms are just the blooms, like flowers.
Mona, that's a wonderful thought! I think I could still believe it.
Walking Man, ah, perfect haiku! There are a handful of species that we pick and eat. These were suspect, though. We let them be.
PhilipH, I look forward to seeing those mushrooms!
Karen, I like that thought. :) We had a wonderful year for mushrooms. A big haul of aborted entolomas were the most recent.
Vesper, thanks. :) Not too late for a walk.
Shadow, much obliged! :)
Aine, they do seem a little bashful, don't they? ;)
PixieDust, it could be a hobbit wood. Or maybe gnomes. ;)
Kaye, we've had such a wonderful year up in Wayne County! The Chanterelles were plentiful this summer. At the end of September, the Honey Mushrooms were out in force.
Catvibe, I'd love to know what some of them are! And pictures. Got any pictures?
Stacey, I'm with you on the "calms." Autumn is a perfect time for a wool blanket and a nap.
Oh, you would ask for pictures! I have them but they don't translate the size. Next time I need to put a quarter on the mushroom so you can see it in relation. Still trying to ID it. Will let you know when I do!
I love Haiku. You've really mastered it here. Very beautiful, alot of imagery woven into this. Thanks for taking the time to visit my blog and commenting. Appreciate it!

A magnificent haiku Jason. I almost expect to see the fairies skip around the mushrooms.
Love the line: mycelium yawns to bloom.
I need to go and find out what mycelium means....
Are they magic mushrooms?...;-)

Before you eat it
know the genera of it
hallucinations
Short and very sweet poem; love the snapshot too.
Yesterday I went for a stroll around Mellerstain (again!) and I'm just uploading a short video which includes some fungi shots!

Love the wording of this.
Oh, to walk the mushroom rains...
Beautiful, Jason, the words and the pic...
you are the master of few words!
I love how the mushrooms are blushing. As if they feel exposed.
Cute!
:)
Oh, this is a hobbit's dream, yes? What a wonderful tribute to Autumn...
:-)
love,
me
PS
I love Aine's comment! Too, too cute, heehee

To be able to communicate so much, render such an image, in so few words... I'm really impressed by your ability to do that!
Catvibe, maybe some mushroom poetry is in our future on your blog?? :)
Nevine, thank you! I really like trying to distill an emotion or thought into a few drops of words or images. I guess I like my drinks potent. ;)

She Poet, it was a pleasure to visit your blog! Thanks for returning the visit!! The soul of autumn is certainly awakening.
