Cozy

light a fire
in the autumn light
yellow consumes
the futile fight
save the embers and retire
to refresh on their bitter fumes

"save the embers" - Isn't that what we poets do?

The photo is lovely; the thinking profound.

The "autumn light" - so well captured by poetry and photography...

I remember when the bitter fumes were consumed in the sweet scent of the leaves being burned. They don't allow us that anymore so I agree winter approaches only with bitter fumes.

You've captured color and scent of the Fall season with briskness within few words. And yes I want to feel the contrasting warmth by a fireplace or burning leaves in the yard listening to the crackles and pops (not of cereal).

Thanks for stopping by.

Have a great weekend!

I find this poem somehow relaxing and encouraging at the same time.

The picture tells why I love fall and your warm and glowing words substantiate it! "...save the embers and retire..." what a geat line!

Karen, we do preserve. We preserve the small and the large.

Vesper, it was a beautiful weekend. :)

Walking Man, winter is the long haul. Lots of time to breathe that bitterness.

Sharla, a beautiful way to stand against the darkness and chaos. :)

Stacey, thanks. =)

PixieDust, if blow on them, they'll glow brighter.

Szelsofa, two things many of us can use these days.

Kaye, I loved making the picture really shine. Making the yellow really burn like little sunsets.

Nevine, those fires can cleanse.

Love this one! It's so easy on the ears and light. Very pretty.

Bitter fumes? Get yer gas checked old bean...;-)

As to the rest...got a bit cold over in the UK. Gas fire on and snuggling down with a large vodka....doesn't get any better

You lite a beautiful fire for us with this one ... sort of like a ritual welcoming the changing of the season, like we use to do with the old folks ... celebrating harvest time.

Chris, thanks! We're in an intense October.

Mona, I kind of like yours better.

Four Dinner, got enough to pour another? ;)

Amias, I like that. A rite of passage for the season.

Gorgeous photograph, and the
poem is perfectly appropriate.

Beautiful words Jason. 'Yellow consumes the futile fight'. Nice. Great metaphor for living really. All leaves turn yellow eventually hey. Sad as that is.

Thanks for stopping by my blog.
