The Boys (Formerly) of Summer
It's around 10:20 a.m. on Thursday morning, and I'm sitting here in my truck at my train station waiting for the next train. A sixteen inch snowstorm/blizzard blew through last night. I've turned off the heat, but the radio is still on. Don Henley's Boys of Summer is playing. I smile.
At this moment I can unequivocally state that the boy of summer are GONE.
I drove through a snowdrift in the parking lot. Four wheel drive trucks come in handy sometimes. At least that was fun. :)
Carry on.

I read a column in a local paper that said West Virginian's seem to be insulted by winter. We talk about how much longer we might have to endure this condition as if it were a personal affront. It's true. We have a sense that we shouldn't have to put up with the inconvenience. West Virginian's are tough people; I don't know why we're such wusses about snow!
i think you made me figure it out. Snow quit coming here right after i got rid of my Wrangler. If I wasn't going to have any fun it isn't going to do much more than pass us by with a few flakes. That's cool my '94 Honda is to tired for driving through snow banks.
Send some snow down this way. We have heat like you wouldn't believe.
It make make me a bad mom that I don't care how much my kids want to build a snowman, I'm really glad we don't have to put up with that.
i tend to curve up in front of the computer, too - cold has gone into the 10 degrees below zero.
I romanticize the snow because I haven't lived in it since I was a kid. Here we have long stretches of incessant downpours in the winter, but the past few weeks it's been in the 60s and crystal clear. That twirl-around-singing-The-Hills-are-Alive kind of weather.
Not to rub it in. :)
Sending you some warmth from So Cal. The local beach was flooded about a month ago - if you can believe that.
Hang in "Boy of Summer".
Really like all your music choices. Henley's lyrics always speak to the poet in me.
Karen, that's unfortunate, because I bet you get quite a bit! I grew up a chunk of miles north of you in western Pennsylvania.
Walking Man, I bet that Honda can still do it! Maybe with not as much fun, though.
Tabitha, heat feels so far away. I think if you dropped me in the middle of that, I'd implode!
Laurel, I have a suspicion that you're very far from a bad mom! They'll get to make that snowman some day. One or two in a lifetime is plenty.
Szelsofa, that's Celcius, right? Either way, too cold!
Sere, when it's falling, it's romantic to me still. Especially at night. I'd love to whisk through a moonlit countryside someday on a horse drawn sleigh. However, the slippery slush and choked parking lots aren't so romantic the days after. ;)
Lee, I'm slipping some of that warmth under the blankets! Very much appreciated. :) I've heard it said that every picture is a portrait. I think that's true of my photography. Perhaps song choices are too.
