Exposure

I tasted the rain
Four times four
Or plus a year

The exposure
Delicious
And dark
When they were sleeping sleeping sleeping

I hate the rain
When I feel it
Four times four times four
Will I be bones?
                                                                           d
Illusions
Dance the drops dry
But the wind                       l
is skin

I'm not sure I got the importace of numbers, but I loved the experience - and the playing with the last word, too.

Will I be bones?

We have a category in our blog called Bones. I don't know that I could ever explain what it is, exactly. Maybe "essence" or "nature" as in what is my own nature. I wondered what that word meant for you in your poem.

Also, the photo is so beautiful in its stillness. The color of the sky against the grass.

c o l d -- getting colder here, too. It's coming fast.

Love it, and the picture is fantastic - that sky!

I too am unsure what the four times four references mean. Very interesting.

I'm not very good at math, but love this anyway.

I love when fall comes whispering in, but start getting angry when it shouts.

I love the c o l d part.

I like the last few lines;

Illusions
Dance the drops dry
But the wind
is skin

I love the idea of the wind being skin. Sensual image. The photograph is wonderful. A lone tree on the horizon. You can't help but wonder - how did that little seed get there?

Quoinmonkey -
I bet all his/her companiono were slaughtered to turn the land arable, that's how it happened. Greed and hunger.

(Jason might correct me for he knows the actual land.)

Szelsofa, yes, the numbers. ;) I know they spoke to you after some more thought. Thanks for really embracing this poem.

Ybonesy, I'm going to have to check out that category on your blog. Here, "bones" or death was tied to 4 x 4 x 4 = 64 years of age.

Angela, I have to come clean on the sky. I used to play a lot with photography filters as a teenager. When I took this picture, I pulled out the old graduated emerald filter to color the sky. Yesterday, I used a grey filter to accentuate the clouds. Those will show up here sometime.

Anti-Wife, it's me looking forward to age 64, seeing many unknowns between there and here.

Angel, I liked playing with the word "cold" blowing away.

Hoodie, then this time of year must be perfect. The hard autumn is weeks away.

QuoinMonkey, it's strange that they left that tree live in the middle of the field. Maybe it was once a pasture, and that tree was shade for the animals.

Szelsofa, this field is part of a state park near us. These fields are still used a farmland. The way the tree grew full suggests that it was always in the open. I'm wondering if it was shade for pasture animals once.

Most attorneys I know (including me) are just not poetic. This was quite beautiful. I had to comment.

Ello, thank you! Sometimes I do feel a little out of place as an attorney, but I'm sure all of us do in some way. I just try to turn it to a strength.

this is lovely, especially the letters of cold blown away up the page. I like the meditation on age and the photo is gorgeous, so many possible reasons for why that one seed grew and became the tree, which could be another poem in itself!
