The Long Climb

The year has turned.

The southern sun will begin its long climb north.

But like the delay of the seasons, maybe we too have yet to feel the dark's true depth.

Still, the sun climbs. And the days grow stronger.

What will the bright warmth return to you?

It is ironic that we have yet to touch the depths of winter darkness, even as the days grow lighter.

I hope the bright warmth returns a sense of peace after this hectic holiday season. I find myself looking forward to the everyday again. Starting with blogging again! :)

I love the spirit of Winter Solstice. While everything's still stiff from frost and the sky is deep gray, there is hope in the knowing.
While the toughest bites of winter are yet to come, there is hope.

Personally I find the winter months more conducive to writing. Once that sun starts shining warmer and longer the urge to get out into the big wide world is so much more compelling!

Beautiful photo.
Winter makes me restless and sleepy. I always have more energy when there's more light.

Sarah, we're like the wind and ocean currents. It takes more energy to slow us down when we're moving, and more energy to spur us when we've stopped. Maybe some bright days would speed the process. :)

Szelsofa, may we never lose that hope!

DBA Lehane, so true. I'm looking forward to creating more music and video posts during the quiet season.

Vesper, a time of turning is such a powerful time. The unknown really gets the heart beating.

Church Lady, that was one of the last pictures I caught that day. When I saw that dramatic autumn sky, it was time for a camera trip!

Jason,

Glorious picture! You must use it again for a story prompt one day. I am in love with the contrast you captured.

I cannot wait for the warm weather and yet more cold awaits me.

For my family, the bright warmth will return long walks, afternoons sneaking away to the park, and digging in the backyard for "buried treasures"!

Though I accept and (on most levels) enjoy winter, I do long for nicer weather. It seems that the older I get, the shorter I want the winter months to be! :)

Great pic, great post! Happy new year to you and the lovely and talented Aine!

...The Dali ski reminded me of his Swans reflecting Elephants, for no obvious reason I can think of; and saw a touch of D G Rosetti's reflective Persephone in the thought...

Have been restricted for three months with damaged leg nerves, so the Spring will hopefully bring recovery and renewal as I'm an outdoor person; given half a chance...

Every best wish to you both for the New Year.

My daughter told me on Dec 21 that she didn't understand how the daylight could start getting longer when winter was just beginning. Your thought about maybe we too have yet to feel the dark's true depth reminds me of her question.

In Seattle it's dark from abour 4:45 at night until about 7:15 in the morning now. It's wonderful with all the holiday lights that still delight the night, but when they are gone it feels like an eternity before Spring arrives with it's longer days.

Lovely thoughts!

Ello, it would interesting to see what stories people would weave from that picture!

Wordtryst, thank you. :)

Angelique, I wouldn't mind a month of snow, then straight to spring.

Julie, Persephone.... Yes, a very fitting allusion.

Anti-Wife, the celebrations do get us through quite a bit. The last stretch is still tough.
