Send in the Clowns

Five o'clock rolled around this morning. I cracked open an eye.

Hey. What's that I hear?

Trombones. A reed organ. The restless trumpeting of an elephant.

Strike up the band! The circus is in town!

Unfortunately, it's in my intestines. Step right up to the freak show in the bathroom.

Thanks to my younger daughter, I spent all of Tuesday doing a little soft shoe with gastroenteritis. She danced for about 8 hours, but I've got about 18 while I write this. Not fair. Just. Not. Fair.

But hey, I think I'm feeling the very first shadow of what might be hunger. Things might be looking up.

Then again, my older daughter is now next to me because she unleashed a torrent about an hour ago.

Bet I'm in for a long night. I'm living LARGE, baby.

LOL

Oh believe me, I know your pain. In household of 4 with 2 bathrooms.

You would think that's sufficient.

Uh.No.

Hope you and your daughter get well soon!!

Drink lots of fluids. And I recommend dry toast with some Marmite spread on top for your first foray back into the land of solids. Now if only more US shops would bother to stock Marmite...

No! NO! NOOOOO! Don't touch Marmite! EOH you are evil to recommend Marmite without a BIG WARNING! I had no idea they sold it in SA. It doesn't even travel that often to Ireland! The advertising here goes "Marmite - Love it or hate it" - I am obviously of the latter. I retch at the thought! I wholeheartedly concur on the advice to drink more fluids though!
Is there a nasty bug going around on the Eastern Seaboard? Poor Ello was feeling rough too (although she said her husband tried to poison her).
Hope you all feel better soon!

You'll have to let us all know how it comes out.

(Sorry, couldn't resist)

I'm not laughing at you, Jason. Just at the sad, sad clown. ;)

Aine, stay strong. And Jason, I hope you guys got some much-needed rest.

You poor things. I know just what that's like! At least it's making its way through the family in a staggered manner. It seems so much worse if you're all sick at the same time.

Feel better.

I'm sending my get well wishes to you and your family, Jason.
Fastening helps. Anytime. Any disease.

Thanks, Sarah! So far, so good. I've dodged this one, I believe.

Our youngest has quit the trapeze, Jason is finally off the tightrope, and our eldest daughter is wrapping up the last act. This family circus is almost over! Yay! All that's left now, is for me to take down the tent, air everything out, and clean up after the animals... (ha, this metaphor is working well).

Thank you, everyone, for all the well wishes!

Hope you're all feeling better now. Sounds like Aine is a good Ringmaster.

**Thanks everyone for the well wishes and giving me a little levity!! :)

J.C., I could definitely see someone sweating it with that bathroom configuration.

Vixen, thanks for the heads-up.

EOH, marmite...I'm intrigued. I graduated to soup today. I'm trying to keep those fluids going. Dehydration cost me a mighty migraine yesterday and last night.

Janey, that bad, eh? Now I have to try it. Just once. ;)

Scott, fast and furious, my friend.

Sarah, might as well see the humor in it, you know? ;) Thanks for brightening the gloom.

Kaycie, the staggered approach helps among the adults, that's for sure. We would have been in bad shape if both Aine and I were down for the count.

Szelsofa, I definitely needed to take a break from eating. I tried some toast yesterday and was miserable for hours.

Aine, thanks for being the trooper this time around. I need some of your antibodies!

Anti-Wife, it's slow going. I drove to work for a couple hours to get some of these people off my back. I'm marginal, though.

Last time I had this, I broke into a sweat and fainted. Glad the worst is over!

Calm, solid vibes going out to you!

Wow, janeyv, that was quite a visceral reaction! Love it or hate it, it's one of the best sources of B vitamins. Marmite is the ubiquitous black spread available in SA. Another alternative is Oxo spread (don't know if that's available in the UK and Eire, though). There's Bovril, but that's made from the unmentionable bits of cows... and then there's Vegemite, which is an Australian thing. Go on, Jason, have a Vegemite sandwich!

JaneyV said...

EOH- It's MADE in England! It's the sludge they peel off the end of a barrel of beer. I't's the remnants or bi-products of fermentation and yeast. B vitamins be damned - the taste is evil incarnate! Of course I am the only one in my family to think so. My husband and kids LOVE the stuff!

PUKE! My niece tried it for the first time today. She liked it!
BAARF!

Thanks to all the circus talk, I had a really disturbing image of something being shot out of a canon. Hope everyone is on the mend.

Billy, completely understandable. Who knew intestines could be so evil.

Vesper de Vil, our last major bout was a couple years ago. That was worse. Our youngest was the source (again). That time, though, she was a couple hours from a trip to the hospital. Luckily, on the third day, she started holding down fluids.

Precie, bless you! Those are exactly the vibes I need. Dinner is not sitting well with me at the moment.

EOH, you know, this is coal country over here. All this talk of marmite makes me think of strip mining: "Hey, what's the matter, Fred?" "Well, that there vein of coal just petered out on us. But look at that marmite! Hooeey! Fire up the steam shovel, boys, we've got overtime tonight."

Janey, I must implore you. Please refrain from the words "puke" and "barf." In fact, I hereby forbid for three days the gastronomic terms of hurl, upchuck, blow, yark...um, actually, I have to step away for a moment. 'xcuse me.

Jaye, I could add to that image, but I'll spare you. ;)

Had a posting about "Vegemite" a few weeks ago. Read the comments before inflicting your stomach with this. :-)

Hope you feel better soon. Am curious about the weight loss. I could use some. heh heh!! Sorry...

Oi, I feel for you Jason, having been poisoned by my husband this past weekend, I know the pain of kneeling far too long by the porcelain throne. Although I'm feeling bad for Aine as I'm assuming clean up has fallen on her poor shoulders.

Feel better soon and pop by tomorrow for my contest. The pic should make you chuckle! And for once a contest you can just enter instead of working one whole week administering and judging!

Geraldine, dang, it's hanging on!

Janey, my stomach salutes you. :)

Chris, a few of my suits were feeling a little snug after winter hibernation. At this point, I'm expecting a normal fit again.

Ello, my mother poisoned me once (she got herself too). It was seriously nasty. I ended up in the ER, and she should have gone. I told her a bunch of times that our aunts weren't home canning correctly.

oh my goodness you poor man... i do hope you're all much better!

Is it ok to find a bit of humor in your otherwise awful situation?

I just re-read these comments, checking on how you and your family are all feeling and seeing what blogger remedies have been prescribed to date.

The "black spread" jokes and your "forbidden word list" Jason actually makes for hilarious reading (for a person who is healthy of course).

You do have a lively bunch showing up over here, don't you?

GET WELL SOON and stay away from all forms of spreads OK!!! LOL.

I still think lots of clear fluids is always the way to go with tummy woes.
