The Forgotten Ones

Mamma sings to the trees.

She said when the whistle cracks whistled.

Old man trees bend where the moon used to be, and black-rain leaves storm through the darkness.

The darkness.

Nothing but wet.

So many leaves falling limp and smelling. Like oil on the ground. Breath can't poke that blanket. Wood and mud. Settled smoke. Forests rising with too much trying to grow.

We cry silver worm tears, but no one cares.

The first cold chatters bones like we forgot, and Momma can't sing to the trees. She's there. In them. Dancing with the black cloud moon. Forgotten me. And I don't get a tree. Don't want her anyway.

Sing me, trees. Forget the black cloud moon.

Forget my open mouth.

I don't remember what I used to be.

*******
(From Jason: On this Halloween, beware the forgotten ghosts where the paths have overgrown. Look off into the dark fields and forests, but keep to the roads and lamplight. Insanity shrouds the long forgotten. And anger. If one touches you, whispers to you, run. RUN. Do not disappear with them into the brambled shadows.)
*******

HAVE A GREAT DAY, EVERYONE!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

Jason, you've captured the essence of the dark... I would have to quote the whole text to mark the images that have brushed my soul with the feathery touch of fear...
I think I'll follow your advice...

Happy Halloween!
:-)

This is the real music of the night, Jason. So well done. :)

Breath can't poke that blanket. What a line...

To be forgotten--even by yourself--must be the worst fate of all. No wonder they want our company. But I think I'll stick to your advice, all the same. ;)

Happy Halloween, Jason and Aine!!

Oh, heavy deed.

It feels ancient and futuristic at the same time. I know I could put this whole piece around my shoulders and wear it like a shroud. It is that heavy.

The last three lines are are so poetic they made me cry. So good, Jason.

Love the short lines. Great lyricism combined with short sentences that usually work for prose narratives. Nice blend.

I love the rampant decay in this. You do dark better than anyone!

I'm in the mood for a Vampyr poem now. Hope you felt suitably chilled on Samhain!

Vesper, thanks, my friend. :) I tapped into a chill for myself here too.

Sarah, music of the night...what a compliment! Thanks! This notion of a ghost is the most frightening to me. With insanity, you can predict, and count on, nothing.

Jenn, Happy Halloween!

Charles, thank you!

Miladysa, *shiver*. :)

Kaye, It feels ancient and futuristic at the same time...your descriptions and comments are as skilled as your writing. :) Thank you for the high compliments! You really gave me a smile.

Terri, I hope you made it! ;)

Billy, great to see you! I can't wait to immerse again in your poems.

Laughingwolf, I hope your day was as intense as you dared. =)

Merelyme, and to you! Thank you for saying hello. :)

Angel, thanks! Do you all celebrate in SA?

Janey, it was a wonderful night. Thanks for the kind words on my writing. I do like to leave the light behind occassionally and dive deep.
