Readers' Choice Award ("Ascension")

The "Ascension" Short Fiction Contest is now closed.

Thank you everyone for a wonderful week! The response, the writing, and the mutual support has been stunning!!

But we have WAY more fun in store!

READERS' CHOICE AWARD
Voting for the Readers' Choice Award is now open!

This portion of the contest is open to everyone who submitted an entry (and guest writers). Here are the rules:

  1. Contest participants are invited to vote on their top 5 favorite entries by emailing me their votes to jevanswriter at yahoo dot com.
  2. Please vote by entry number and list your votes from 1 to 5 with 1 being your top vote.
  3. I will award 5 points for your 1st vote, 4 points for your 2nd vote, 3 points for your 3rd, 2 points for your 4th, and 1 point for your 5th.
  4. You may not vote for your own entry. Please specify your entry number at the beginning of your email.
  5. At the close of Readers' Choice Award voting, I will tally the points. The winner will be the entry with the most points.
  6. I guarantee at least three Readers' Choice Awards; however, depending upon the results of the contest, I reserve the right to award additional Readers' Choice Awards in the order of their rank. Additional awards, if given, may be with or without a prize.

As you read, please keep the comments coming. Feedback and appreciation is the fuel along the lonely road of writing. If you find folks whose writing moves you, visit their blogs or ask where you can find more. Enjoy your own judging, and above all, have fun!

Cast your votes before Monday, January 19th, at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time (U.S.). At that time, I will let you know when the winners will be announced.

AND THERE'S MORE!!

We have two very special guest writers joining us. Both have rocked Clarity of Night contest wins before, and both are well on their way to seeing their first novels hit the bookshelves! Stay tuned tomorrow for some "Ascension" of their own!!

And finally, in the tradition of Clarity of Night contests, on Friday I will share my own vision of the "Ascension" photo.

Have a great night!

Jason, thank you for hosting this contest -- a wonderful opportunity to read many varied and interesting takes on "ascension." The only problem with the whole thing is that I've become obsessed! I venture to say, I'm not alone!

I have enjoyed it too. I don't envy the decision you have to make. I have several favourites. I'd also like to congratulate everyone who entered and say, trite as it sounds: 'Everybody's A Winner.'

A fantastic response to this contest, Jason. Is it, maybe, the best ever?

Thank you for holding it and...
good luck with the judging! :-)

Thank you Jason for a great and fun contest. I'm glad we have until the 19th to vote because I want to sit and read each one in an unrushed manner. I have only been able to get to them in a spotted manner at best, but have enjoyed what I have read tremendously with grins and laughs and grimaces and yikes'. What a delight! It will be very hard to choose a top five, but I'm looking forward to it. A few really do shine like stars however! Some awesome writing here.

Thanks Jason for this great contest. I only came across it one day before closing, but will make up for lost time by going thru all the entries and chosing my fav 5. Looking fwd to some good reading.

Karen, thanks. :) There's a 12-step program to come down from the high. ;)

Selma, it's the truth. Everyone gets something from these contests.

Ceedy, yes, an amazing turn out!

Sameera, I can't wait either. :)

Wael, you're very welcome!

Vesper, yeah, this one blew the covers off. Yesterday's stats were nuts. Close to 5,000 visits from 1,000 visitors.

Catvibe, I extended the voting period a day due to the sheer immensity of the list!

Margaret, enjoy! Everyone will greatly appreciate your reading and comments. :)

Thank you for organizing the contest. I thank my friend too, for encouraging me to write on this. I will be eagerly waiting for the results too.

I have read many of the posts, but still could not read all as of now. I hope to finish reading all the 125 posts. It would not be fair to vote for any post, without actually reading them all. I wish everyone reads every post before voting, else you cannot be a good judge.

I understand that it is also not possible to comment on every post, but a little sentence would be great to see … just to feel that the post has been read and evaluated…

Best of luck to all the participant. I’m sure Jason, you will have a good time and a tough one too… enjoy!

খুব ভাল লেগেছে।
আশা করি আর এমন প্রতিযোগিতা হবে এবং আরো বেশি পরিমানে লেখা ছাপা হবে।
ধন্যবাদ।

I wish I had known about this great place earlier, just being here and reading all the entries has been enriching.
All the best to the participants!

Wow, over 130 entries. I had hoped to take part but with school starting and a couple of looming deadlines I wasn't able. But I've been reading some of the entries and you've got some nice stuff.

Jason... Can't possibly thank you enough for initiating such an event! Met such great writers and even better people, who became friends by saying just 250 words to each other! I think I've found my Neverland here... a place where there is every emotion, colour, flavour and aroma that one can possibly think off! Please accept my virtual bow to you... :-D :-D

30 stories a day is the target (even though I've already read quite a few).Nearly all of them deserve many re-reads. It's gonna be a busy weekend and I am in for a treat.

just a small little note [haha]to say thank you jason for a great blog... and the contest is a great feature as well.. the best part reading all the entries... as a babywriter it is wonderful to read all of the different entries and how one reacts to a photo... i have learned so much just reading the entries.. the style, the plot, the ending the beginning, the end.. the emotion... the reaction.. and all in less than 250 words which is a biggy.. keep it simple sweetheart.. somebody else sed that, but as a story writer i think thaz a good start... hopefully i will be able to read all of the entries prior to the 19th.. geewhiz it's already the 15th... again, thank you jason

Jason, thanks for holding the contest. I've really enjoyed writing my own entry and reading everybody else's.
Now, though, i have a problem. How can I narrow down my 13 favourites to five!

Tan, my pleasure!

Harshad, you're welcome to stay. :)

Charles, I understand. Wow, it was certainly a big one!

Peggy, that's WAY too cold!! Glad you're warming up with stories.

Aniket, thank you!! I'm glad you've met great people.

BrownPhantom, I'm with you. We need to keep pace!

Laughingwolf, just so blogger doesn't toss us completely. Kirk to Scottie: We need more bandwith!

Meghan, I heart you all back. :)

K9, we'll look for you next time.

Sawan, thanks, my friend!

One More Believer, yes, that's why I think these contests are very useful. Everyone starts at the same place. A picture and 250 words. It shows what is possible. People teaching each other.

Kunjal, have fun reading and voting!

Vic, narrowing it down is tough, man. Tough.
