Auld Lang Syne

I'd like to leave you on this last night of 2009 and the dawn of 2010 with a little tune. My first solo recording on the Irish low whistle. (Props to my daughter who accompanied me on Silent Night). The images are a selection of my photos that I used here this year.

To acquaintances old and new, I toast you. To auld lang syne. May the shadows of 2009 never return and the graces of 2010 uplift you.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

(Oh. And by the way, the "Silhouette" Short Fiction Contest will open on Wednesday, January 6th! Hurray!!)

Happy New Year, Jason! Thanks for the beautiful music and photos. The music of the Irish low whistle (even though I didn't know until now what it the instrument is called) always brings tears to my eyes. Beautiful.

I've been with you long enough to have recognized most of the photos. Your photography is really beautiful, as well.

I look forward to reading the entries for Silhouette!

Apparently, you are a man of many talents. That was absolutely gorgeous, with a nice show of images from your previous posts, I think? I wish you all the best in 2010. Happy New Year to you and yours, Jason.

The notes of the Irish low whistle are quite haunting; that is a beautiful recording, along with your beautiful photographs.
Happy New Year to you and yours!
(and Yay! Roll on 6th January!)

Karen, warm wishes my friend. :) I wanted to learn the low whistle so I could play more expressively than the bagpipes allow. I could tackle the Uillean Pipes, which give more freedom, but that's a much bigger investment of time and money (and difficulty).

Strugglingwriter, you have the tools. Knock it out of the park!

Shadow, you too. :)

Walking Man, I do play the bagpipes (not sure if you've known me long enough to know that). There are a couple of my recordings on YouTube. I wish you the best this coming year!

Catvibe, thank you. :) I know you have an extremely trained ear. Happy New Year!

Raine, may you and your family have a wonderful, prosperous year!

Nevine, I do try, at least. ;) Yes, these images are some of my photographs this year. I'm sure you recognize a few. Best wishes to you too! I hope this year is your best yet.

Liane Spicer, thank you! Happy New Year!

Terri, thanks so much for the compliment. :) I hope your new life in Australia is insanely happy!

Happy New Year Jason!
That's a beautiful, touching version of Auld Lang Syne. The tune compliments your wonderful photography in a lovely way.

Am I right in assuming that the Irish low whistle is the same as what we call the tin whistle in Ireland?

unfortunately I can not see/hear anything. judging from the very first one I saw posted in this blog a year or so ago it must just as great.

Happy New Year to you and your family, Jason!

Happy new year Jason!

Did I miss a post somewhere in between? Are we supposed to submit our stories before 6th or you are just going to declare the dates on 6th.

I don't wanna miss it. You know that, right. :)

Jason, everytime I return here, I fully expect some fine work that inspires and delights. Well, I got that and more tonight! Your talent knows no bounds. Your rendition of Auld Lang Syne on the Irish low whistle was such a wonderful surprise and appreciated treat! And...I loved the nostalgic look back at the year through your pictures. Thank you for being you! Blessings in 2010.

Margaret, thanks. :) And yes, the low whistle is a tin whistle. However, it's not the kind that you usually see. It's much larger. Close to two feet long.

Szelsofa, follow the link to my YouTube account on the sidebar. You can access the video directly there.

Anne, Happy New Year to you too!

Aniket, no, you didn't miss anything. I'll post the contest rules and invitation on Tuesday. Submissions will open Wednesday.

Akasha, much appreciated! I hope your new year is bright.

Kaye, I'm very humbled. Thank you. Truly. :) I hope to be able to share a lot more with the low whistle. And with all the rest. I've been blessed to have met you too!
