The Trickster’s Bride
by Blodeuedd
Ghislaine looked up at the dark sky. Was it night? She sat up and looked around. Was this it? She tried to remember something important, but it kept slipping away. She looked down on her beautiful dress and it dawned on her. She was the sacrifice to the Trickster, she had tasted the blood of the Gods. She stood up and saw a deep forest. Where was he? Where was she? She swallowed hard and remembered those last doubts that had entered her mind. Had she failed the seven Gods? She trembled and wondered if she had brought destruction upon her father’s kingdom.
“I am here,” she said with a voice that did not sound like her own.
Nothing.
She took a deep breath and told herself that this was a test to see if she was worthy, and so she was. She started walking but the path was old and covered with grass and branches. She tried to keep the doubts out of her mind but the more she wondered, the more scared she became. She came to a halt and took another deep breath.
“I serve the 7, I serve he who is and isn’t.
She looked around but nothing happened at those holy words. Tears wanted to come forth, and she looked up at the sky. A lonely magnificent bird soured over the sky, and at last she knew.
He was real.
He had come.
The Trickster.

Ah faith. How hard it can be.
Nice job.
The willing sacrifice. An interesting look into faith.
Great job B! What an imagination, great imagery! Excellent addition to the last contest's entry!
Dottie :)
Hi Dottie,
I see you found me already :)
Thanks, I actually wrote something else first, but then I wanted to continue on this story. Can't wait to read yours.
Thanks Sarah
PJD
Thank you
Always thought the gods were sneaky that way, especially about young maidens...
Sweet story. Was this her afterlife, I wonder?
Bernita,
Lol, they sure were ;) And they sure did like their young maidens didn't they.
leatherdykeuk,
I guess that is up to each to decide, I don't even know ;) She can be dead, she can be with the gods, or she is just across their world. I really wanna find out.
Well, I wont blame the gods. I wouldn't refuse a maiden either... ;)
Loved the uniqueness of your take on it. Its special.
Wonderful job in this piece. Enjoyed reading! A lot!
The thing about Tricksters is that they are tricky. The willing sacrifice is a chilling thing.
A very nice piece of writing.
Very cool.
Aniket,
They sure knew how to play it, lol.
Thanks, that is nice of you to say.
Lena,
Thank you, that is all I wanna hear :)
JaneyV
That they sure are, and I am glad i managed with some chills too so to say. Thanks!
Onipar, well thank you
Hide, quick! :) Great story!
Great character building.
Aimee,
Lol, let's hope she did. Thank you :)
Craig,
Thanks, that I like to hear
Tricksters come in all shapes and sizes ... nice!
a keeper, thx b :)
uh... make that 'kiitos' ;)
Kartik,
That they sure do, thanks :D
Laughinwolf,
:D kiitos!
I just love that you built on the last contest piece! I was fully invested in this story last time so glad to see it continue. But please, don't make us wait for the summer.
Laurel
Cool, you noticed :)
I was writing something else but then I wanted to continue this story. Too find out what happened, well it is still not clear, but perhaps next time ;)
Great imagery, I love the details and the ideas behind it. Definately should be extended into something larger.
You built on the last contest piece!? Wow, this is a clever lot over here!!
Love your title, and your story is nicely written.
Thanks CJT
I'd love to make it bigger, it truly is the way I work :)
Chris
Yup, I couldn't stop myself.
Thanks, I like the whole trickster idea in mythology, and I like that title :)
Great job of world-building in so few words. I loved the story and the writing. Might have to go on my fav list.
I haven't read your last piece, but I'm off to read it now because I really liked this one. She's the willing victim who needs to be the sacrifice. Fantastic characterisation.
Ranee
Thank you Deb :)
I do love world building.
Ranee
It is called Blood of the Goods, I wrote it under my real name.
Thanks :)
I love the idea of following the fate of someone who has been sacrificed to the gods. Wonderfully imaginative!
I detect a bit of skepticism in the narrator's voice.
Kurt,
Thank you, my mind took me there, and I liked evolving the story.
James
At first she was very willing, but now she has some doubts too, I guess if I was to write another piece it would become even more clear
Dear Entrants #1-105,
I have read your pieces so that I can fairly participate in the Readers' Choice vote. (I read all of them through last week, before I started commenting.) I will be coming back around to offer my keep/tweak comment, but I didn't want anyone to snark.
Cheers,
Aerin (#236)
BTW, it's perfectly fine if you still want to snark, but this way you can choose a more appropriate subject, like Sarah Palin's hair or the enigmatic career of Justin Timberlake.
