Forest in a Raindrop

one day in May
I was carried by rain
and swirled into one
shimmery raindrop
I visited the cows
that live in the clouds
and led them to pastures
the fog had made

but the curse of rain
is never to stay
so I darkened
the mood of Nimbus
I tickled his temper
of lightning tongues
and hurried to join
the pattering day

but wind's breathless play
is to gush what to say
and I blew past the boot
teeming with tadpoles
so I'm on this branch
all topsy-turvy
growing my forest
the backwards way

I LOVE THIS! The meter and diction is so...raindrop-y. Whimsical, flowing, mercurial. And the last two lines are pure, unadulterated, simple fun.

hmmm, this one is delicious. a bit playful, a bit serious.

I love the conceit, and I agree with both Laurel and SzelsoFa - very playful and carefree. Some people write what they observe; you combine observation with imagination, which serves you well as a writer.

So good Jason. I like the way the words themselves, the beat, makes me think of rain :)

I do like this very much and hope your forest grows right side up even though being enervated wrong side down.

Beautiful, true, and haunting.
Thank you for this, the photo and your visit to my blog also.

Laurel, thanks, my friend. :) I was feeling very whimsical with this one and really wanted the language to convey it.

Szelsofa, yes, there's a touch of isolation in this one in addition to the fun.

Karen, thank you for the warm compliment. :) I love letting my imagination go.

Tabitha, now that you mention it, I see it!

Walking Man, maybe we can get that forest turned around!

Bernita, trying to focus through the raindrop to catch the forest was pretty delicate without a tripod!

Oddyoddyo13, much appreciated!

Matha, thanks so much! And thanks for coming over. I'll definitely be back to visit your corner of the blogosphere.

I think you captured the playfulness of the raindrop perfectly. I will think of this every time I walk in the rain.

And the photo is wonderful. I'm staggered that you even noticed the trees through this droplet, let alone managed to photograph it.

ujraluca, is that my friend tree at the edge of the forest? :) Yes, I took the photo by hand. The focus was extremely touchy.

Petty Witter, thank you for stopping over and for the kind words! I enjoyed my visit to your blog. I look forward to going back.

JaneyV, I really smiled when I realized that the forest was lensing in the raindrops! And thanks so much for the wonderful compliment. If my writing ever comes to mind later, that's a huge gift.

Anne, I really had fun doing it. :) As soon as I saw the opportunity for the picture, I wanted this feel for the poem.

Terri, it's almost like an imp dancing. ;)

lovely whimsy.... an adult Seuss piece. I read it aloud and love how it sounded.

Szelsofa, you can be lots of people if you want. :)

Awareness, what a great spin on it! Yes, I did want that kind of snap to it.
