Game Friday: First Albums

It's been baking here lately. Crank up the temperature and humidity! It's even hot in the mountains (hence my previous post). Let's cool off this weekend, shall we?

Here's the question for the day. I want you to remember a first--the first time some music struck you, meant something to you, and you took the initiave to go out and buy it. We're talking about laying down some hard earned cash (or birthday money) not for that video game or that disembodied Barbie makeup/styling head, but for your first album.

So spill it. What did you buy?

For me it was the Flock of Seagulls self-titled, debut album in 1982. Classic hits include the award-winning (or not) I Ran and Wishing. Yeah, those were the days...and haircuts. It's weird how that sound still means something to me. New Wave. A frozen time and place.

How about you? What's your story?

Something To Be from Rob Thomas. My Aunt and I went out and bought it, all because I adored the first song on the track. :)

What can I say? The man rocks.

My first album... phew, that was a long time ago. If I remember correctly my sister and I went 'halvies' on a compilation LP because it had that song "I'm so beautiful" by Divine on it. Must've been around 1984 or '85.
Ugh. What was I thinking???!!!

erm, i was crazy for abba at a very young age, but then i spent no money on them...
i did'nt have much spending money you know - it all went for things like icecream, a chocolate bar... nothing serious.
the first time i bought things were christmas and bday presents.
i waited a long time before i had enough cash to spend on trivialities like music.
i think i was a university student.
and it must have been either pink floyd or annie lennox or rem. or u2.
anything i loved between 1988-1993.
i can't really recall.

and please do send over some sunshine. it's been raining for like weeks here.

Okay, Cloudia, you want to trade records? My first was Diana Ross and the Supremes, but my favorite was that album of The Beatles with the disembodied heads on the cover. :-)

I bought two albums the fist time I bought music, Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols and The Monkees Greatest Hits.

I was four, don't laugh too hard.

Oh man... I'm really dating myself with this, but it was 1978. Grease.

Hopelessly Devoted, You're the One That I Want, Summer Nights... what can I say? They touched my soul. And still do. In a geekish sorta way... (sorry I'm not cooler with the music scene...)
;)

I never actually had to buy my own albums (spoiled girl that I was and still am) but I do remember the first album that I actually wanted and enjoyed is Paula Abdul's Forever Your Girl. Please don't judge me. :P

Most likely Bowie's Let's Dance album.
Or Led Zeppelin. I really can't remember; it was such a long time ago.

However warm it might be there, it can't beat the 49.1 degree centigrade we had here! ( you can calculate that in F!)

In India we get albums of mixed numbers. I chose one with Wham, & Phil Collins & Foreigner & Stevie Wonder & Lionel Richie etc.

Among the single group album I chose 2 Unlimited , because the beat was so good for my aerobics.

& to listen to, Savage Garden & Enigma. Also Yaani Orchestra performed with Taj Mahal as backdrop!

Among the old numbers, I like ( although I haven't bought them)I like Boney M Beatles and Diana Ross.

Right now I like Linkin Park !

A bit of a late starter in actually buying my own music, I tended to wait for christmas/birthday, the first album I ever bought was a David Essex one - which I can't remember.
