Entry #8

The Last Shot
by Kunjal

"Please move a bit, I want click the perfect shot” shouted Rohan.

“Not again” I muttered.

“A little more”

“Not a single inch now!” I shouted back.

For the last fifteen minutes he has been trying to get a perfect shot of me with the sun setting in the background. I was tired and bored now and the heat made it worse for posing.

“OK!I will manage” said Rohan

The next thing I heard was a thud and his voice echoing in the valley

The rescue work started immediately but I could read in their face that there was little hope. We had come here on vacations and now I was all alone without him.

Unknown faces gathered around me to sympathize and talk about the accident. They were still searching for the body.

"Is this the same camera?" asked the police inspector in charge.

It took all my courage to nod my head.

“We will need this for evidence. You can keep this for the time being”

He handed me the camera. With shaking hands I held the camera. No more sure what to do. I scrolled through the pictures. This was the last shot.

Interesting take on the photo. Nice to have that be the last one and leave us wondering how our narrator interpreted it. :)

My first comment didn't show--I hope this doesn't end up twice!

My favorite part of this was the juxtaposition of that moment of (mild) irritation with such a profoundly life-changing (and in his case, ending) moment. Isn't that how it is in real life? We express small (or large) irritations with the people we love most, and then something happens and we wish we could take it back. You've captured that nicely!

Clever ending!

sad. I wonder about his character... was he the type to always be looking for the *perfect shot*?

Interesting piece; very thought provoking. I'm left wondering what really happened, and the eventual aftermath thereof.

Thanks for sharing!

I wanted to see what that last shot showed! This worked well for me.

Sometimes looks do kill. An artist would go to any lengths for his muse. Any. Lengths.

thanks for the kind words:)
the last shot is the "elemental" phtograph itself.

@Aniket: Or to any depths.

A sad tale, and I feel for the main character. Poor dear.

I like your take on the picture. Tragic thing - dying for your art.

The story is certainly powerful, and you do a fine job of capturing the boredom. Of such small things are our lives created and broken.

This is a very clever bit of writing, seeing the idea of a last shot, then having the skills to pull a story from it. Well done!

Very interesting take...infact, I feel this is one of those few pieces that have a 'direct' take on the picture, if you know what I mean.

that's an unkind wrap of a photo shoot...strange how a tragic scenario can be transformed into an enjoyable read...

The opening with her annoyance pumps up the shock when he dies tragically. Nicely written.

I didn't think of him as an artist so much as wanting to get the perfect picture of his sweetie. That's what makes the twist such a punch in the gut. Sad :(

Yikes. I could see that sort of thing happening. What a way to go. Well executed!
