Superman Song

And sometimes I despair
The world will never see another man
Like him
     --Crash Test Dummies, Superman Song

"I think about him sometimes. Is that weird? I wonder what ever happened to him."

"No idea."

"He never seemed to really belong in high school."

"Nope."

"Did you ever Google him? I did."

"A few times. His name isn't exactly unique, though. Like five hundred thousands hits or something. It messes with my head when I see so many people with the same name."

"Yeah."

(Silence.)

(Ice cubes swirl.)

"Have you talked to anyone else?"

"No. Not really. I only went to the first reunion."

(More silence.)

(A drink is sipped. The bartender washes at the sink and shakes off his hands.)

"I wonder if anyone ever thinks of us."

"Well, I can tell you that at least one person did."

(Smiles.)

"Yeah."

"And you were much easier to find."

"You want another drink?"

Who are the superheroes sitting and having a drink together, teacher, firefighter? Town cop maybe or the janitor who keeps things clean for the rest of us?

I found my childhood friend Katherine living in Brooklyn , after thirty years.I still have the books she gave me as Christmas present. Imagine my surprise when I found that she still had the gift I had given her!
We did remember each other all that time!Even though we belonged to different ends of the world!

Walking Man, in a weird way (or maybe not so weird), I feel like they are all of them.

Antriksh, maybe so...maybe so. :)

Willow, thank you! I love seeing new visitors. Please make yourself at home.

Four Dinners, and four makes a GREAT story!

Oddyoddyo13, I agree! Sometimes we feel like crash test dummies, no?

Mona, I love hearing about that sort of thing! Perhaps we affect each other much deeper than I would tend to think.

I've always loved Crash Test Dummies and this song. I really like where you took this. Afternoons and Coffee Spoons would be a good prompt, too. :)

Hmmm..I've been there done that...
"Do you remember him?"Do you remember her?"..."Ohh, you know..." and there starts a long trail of gossip...:D:D
Time and again my friends catch up with me over a coffee or a tea and it was nice to read it here...
Jason, as usual I really liked it :)

This has a "feel-good" element to it. It's that connection we have with others, who have passed quickly in and out of our lives, or remain in our everyday existence. Either way, a bond was made for life, because we still think about people we haven't seen or talked to in years! What it means to be human?

Sere, I remember the first time I caught a flash of this song and video on one of those ancient video shows. (Friday Night Videos or something?) Anyway, I was fascinated and finally caught up with it years later.

Erratic Thoughts, I feel like I'm passing out of that period in my life, which is weird. It's like those that are gone are really gone and out of reach.

Kaye, part of me really questions these bonds, because what kind of bond can it really be if there is no contact? On the other hand, we do clearly affect each other in these enduring ways.
