Entry #18

The Road To Hell
by Lisa Gail Green

“Your skin is so hot,” she whispered, as he buried his face in the soft space between her shoulder and neck. Her fingers explored his body, and the heat inside him grew, making his blood boil. Literally.

Aidan leapt up, breathing hard. Megan looked confused, her hair hanging in disarray over her face. He pulled his fingers back through his own, and smelled the singed ends.

“I have to go,” he said, turning away. He just needed to breathe through this. If he stopped now it would still be okay.

Her arms found his shoulders. He stumbled backwards. “Stop!”

She laughed like he was teasing, shoved him back onto the sofa, and let her last bit of clothing fall. Aidan squeezed his eyes shut, trying to contain the fire, but Megan was climbing on his lap.

“I said, stop.” He pushed her off, springing to his feet. “Stay back!” Every inch of him prickled and popped, then the blaze burst forth from below his skin. It wasn’t painful for him, more a release.

Their eyes met. He would never in his miserable life forget her expression as her hair ignited. The flames devoured her like dry kindling even as he reached to push her away. Only after some time did it register that he was holding her, burning straight through the bone with his hands.

He released her, scooting away as she crumbled. The one person he never wanted to hurt was no more than a pile of ash.

Well dang for him and her! She should have listening, huh? :( Bummer! :)

Whoa. This was just . . . disturbing, in a macabre, poignant way. What a usage of the prompt! Every line smacks with Aidan's suffering and pain. Nice work.

Thanks for sharing!

Too bad she couldn't survive that; it sounded pretty hot.

When are women going to learn? No means No.

Ouch! Poor Megan... if only he'd been a bit more upfront with her!

That's a bunmer for poor Megan and Aidan.

Ouch! The Adam/Eve theme, in a macabre, sexy way. I thought he was going to burn, so a wonderful surprise, even if it is the woman's fault.

Mikki neatly sums up my thoughts on this. I'm impressed by the play on gender roles too.

Wow. I can't decide whether to be turned on or horrified.

Mikki and David said it best, I think. This is really well put together. The pain is exquisite, and the way you showed her death as if it was instantaneous gives us a measure of pity. Poor dears.

I didn't want it to end like that! I wanted to tell him to be firmer with her, to move away, and to tell her to listen. So I think you could say it affected me!

You know the old saying - play with fire and you'll turn into a pile of ashes. :) Great story! ~Jana A.

Thanks everyone for the comments! It's been a crazy weekend so I haven't had much chance to respond until now. I love that so many of you felt for my characters. :D

My mom said that would happen to me if I had sex before marriage.

I thought this was sharp and smartly written, though it freaked me out.:-)

Thank you so much! I just have to say LOL to Richard. You really made me laugh!

Touching. I really feel for Aidan at the end when it dawns how dangerous his heat will become and what he will lose.

LOL @Tim - I was thinking the very same thing.

Lisa - I think you did a great job here. It was sexy, terrifying and ultimately, poignant. I feel very sorry for poor Aidan but I have to say Megan? - not so much! She should have listened to the word 'NO'!

A great metaphor in this and well written. It reminds me of a different version of the Twilight theme of loving someone, but posing a real danger of killing her.

Congrats on Forties Club!
