I'm happy to announce that the 12th Clarity of Night short fiction contest will soon be here!! I'm planning on the second week of January. Perfect for stamping out the post-holiday doldrums, no??
$160 in Prizes are on line ($50 for first place) and the chance to join the ranks of several published novelists who cut their teeth here before making the big time. I'm giving you a peek at the contest photo if you'd like to start ruminating early. Feel free to repost it.
Contest rules will be posted closer to the opening, but the most important one is that entries are limited to 250 words and must be inspired by the "Silhouette" photo.
See you all in a month!

what a great photo! can't wait to see all those great entries, too! also in hope to enter with something - time pending, as per usual.
Merry early Christmas to us!
Great photo. I have a feeling these stories are gonna be a bit dark.
I swear I'm gonna win one of these contests someday. :)
I'm good at ruminating I am.
I will now ruminate with a large vodka....
Very nice photo. Has a sort of Blair Witch vibe for me.
My biggest question about this contest: Will we get more or fewer vampire stories than the last one? I'm guessing fewer. But probably more shape shifters.
Right. Ruminated. Vodka. Sorted. Hic.
When you want it by?
I really had fun playing with this photo, and will enjoy entering the fray!
PJD: I thought exactly the same thing! Heehee.
This is a gorgeous photo. Requires some mulling.
Good luck to all!
Szelsofa, Strugglingwriter, Four Dinners, Amias, Laurel, and Angie, thank you! I'm looking forward to the energy of another contest. :) The photo should be fun. I hope we get some original takes.
Once the contest opens in January, the period for submissions will be at least one week.
Seriously? This is such serendipitous timing---I should be finished with grading just in time! I LOVE these contests! It's always so fascinating to see where everyone takes the prompt. Can't. Wait.
hmm. never done much short fiction, although i'm told it's sometimes harder to get everything in such short word counts. maybe i'll give it a try.
merry christmas,

I love the photo and was inspired immediately. Can't wait to see all the entries!
Yay!!! Its been six months already! Geez... I've been slacking!
Great pic! Am guessing we'll have many philosophical entries this time for the first thing that came to my mind was 'Jonathan Livingston Seagull'.
I don't wanna lose my place from the 40s club so will have to work hard now. :P
Apart from writing looking forward to race Laurel, Chris and PJD towards reading too. :D Boy, this Laurel girl reads fast!
Please please please oh please dont have the contest betn 19 to 26th Jan though. Going into the wild. I'll have no net access during that time! Pretty please!!!
Why, Aniket, my dear boy, that sounds suspiciously like a gauntlet smacking the ground!
Insomnia has its rewards.
Great Jason. I'm looking forward!
Just hope I don't miss it as I'm away for the last 2 weeks of January.
OK. Mine is ready :-)
Oh excellent! Just in time for my birthday :-)
Oh, I'm glad I checked in! I'm there!
Here we go again!
