Entry #185

Goodbye
by Dawn Levin

I release you my child, I release you.
Take flight knowing where to land.
Land with knowing when to leave.
Do both with all your might.
Know that your freedom is in your wings.
Fly fearless, fly free.

Every parent has to do that, in most cases reluctantly. :)

Though they hold the right opposite notion, the song 'Mama said' comes to mind.

Short and sharp.

Fabulous Dawn! So much said in so few words!

Beautiful.

Only a true poet can say it all with just a few lines. so simply expressed yet such a profound meaning lies beneath the words.

Loved it. Totally.

recently empty-nested?
A charming poem. It is difficult but thrilling to watch the little ones get independent here and there. Some day not too far off I'll be thinking this same poem.

To "let go" isn't always easy. I'm certainly glad to take a break from all those stories about released souls. Nice to see some variety.

Dawn,
This brought tears to my eyes. Such a beautiful sentiment so beautifully said.

my caveat

Something I Would Keep

I WOULD SCRAP THE WHOLE POEM SO THAT POOR MOTHERS DON'T START CRYING AND HAVE THEIR HUSBANDS ASK WHAT IS WRONG....

Oh, um, sorry. I'm feeling a little emotional. Obviously. This is particularly poignant for me as I have a child with special needs. A LOT done in such short space - masterful.

Something I Might Tweak

"Land with knowing when to leave" - I might take out the word "with" - not sure

Funny, in the novel I am in the middle of, I wrote a poem very much like this. The protagonist wrote it actually, for her daughter. And so I connect strongly with it. My own kids are early 20s. Short and sweet. I have to stop or my comment will be longer. :-)
