High Voltage

you can meddle with live wires
puffed with intuitive electricity
you've dodged the lightning
and learned to shed the rain
but my hand is ash
blackened down to no-more toes
the path of least resistance
flows from flesh to thirsty ground

I love the challenge in the voice - you can do all this, but watch out for me, "my hand is ash"!

I would rather be burned swiftly to ash than be a long unused circuit rotting slowly.

this sounds like a warning...

Very compressed and "tight" in the best sense of the word. Nicely done.

Ouch!

LOVE this:

"but my hand is ash" :)

Hand turned to ash blackened to no-more toes! That is powerful imagery...

I agree about the path of least resistance!

Love it Jason! You sure know how to use those words. Love the image of the 'thirsty ground.'

The menace in the tone is highly effective... I love that you can take any subject and turn it into literature. You have a true gift for writing that I so admire.

:-)

love,
me

Karen, very true. A stark warning.

Walking Man, your comment gave me pause. It may not be a "choice," but I think I would find myself doing the later.

Shadow, perhaps more to myself.

Billy, great to see you! I hope you've been well. Thank you for the kind words. :)

Miladysa, it will blow away in the wind. (Great to see you too!)

Mona, we conduct electrical current rather well, don't we?

Stacey, I hope a stage. A stage I'm done with.

Tabitha, you gave me yet another smile. Thank you!

PixieDust, what an amazing thing to say!! Thank you. Truly. :) Your kindness is extraordinary.

You think you know it all but you ain't seen nothing yet. Yikes! But where to hide? Once again, you are the master of few words...

Yikes, you've been grounded!

In some circles there's no climbing involved.

what a powerful and frightening image of sudden disappearance...
ouch - I used to have recurrent dreams about being accidentally electrocuted by live wires.

Nevine, it's a cliche, but there is that old sentiment that the more you learn, the less you know. I feel that way. But I also know where some of those live wires are.

Gerry, to the 13th power!

JR, yeah, even climbing is something. Some real effort. I respect effort.

Szelsofa, I just had another of my recurring dreams of a malevolent, diseased house. Haunted, basically. And yet I was clearly choosing to live there. Weird.

Ahhh this is profound, indeed!

One of the reasons I choose to be cremated when I pass on is, "the path of least resistance".

jason evans said...

Terri, 3rd degree.

Amias, cremation--an easy return to nature.
